Recent study found no evidence of squats causing harm to lower back or knees. Goes to show once again that deep squats improve and support knees and cause no inherent harm to the back.

With that said, squats done with less than optimum execution of technique can cause harm. It's because of this that people mistakenly think that squats are bad for your knees and back. Research such as this supports such unfounded claims. Below is a video we did several months ago about how to train the high bar back squat for optimum technique. Use the video as reference for cues to improve your squat technique.
